YOUTH BAND PROGRAM
a project of the WATSONVILLE COMMUNITY BAND

BAND PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

The Watsonville Community Band has a regular schedule of concerts in the Spring and Christmas seasons. These concerts are held at performance centers in the local communities that we serve.

Typically we are able to perform at the Mello Center in Watsonville and the Sherwood Hall in Salinas. We also like to perform, when facilities are available, in Monterey, Aptos, Hollister, and Santa Cruz.

THE YOUTH BAND

The Watsonville Community Band is a non-profit public benefit corporation comprised of all volunteers.

We are dedicated to helping school children learn and enjoy the skills of making music. Our volunteers are making sure that the next generation will have an opportunity to learn the music arts.

We ask for a small materials fee of $25 if students can afford it, but the band members all volunteer their time to teach. Several WCB band members also volunteer during the school day at Hall District Elementary School and Pajaro Middle School, two PVUSD schools that have begun the process of bringing back music education.

“Drawn into the classroom by the strains of Mary Had a Little Lamb resonating in the hallway, a security officer shares his childhood memories playing trumpet in elementary school.
Later that day, a grocery store clerk, who’d seen our group practicing, lights up as she talks about her old band teacher.
She had been in middle school when the band program was eliminated from the Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD). Her own children have not had the opportunity to play music in school at all.
That is what we are trying to help change.”
